THE Malvern League's President's Cup clash at Langland Stadium on Sunday was between a young Kempsey United Reserves side and title chasing Green Dragon.
GREEN DRAGON 4, KEMPSEY UNITED RESERVES 2
Both sides had to change their line-ups due to injury with Kempsey's Stuart Stanton ending up on crutches after damaging ligaments on Saturday and Green Dragon's top scorer Darren Gwynne with 60 plus goals damaging a hamstring in the previous Tuesday's game.
Kempsey started very brightly and took the lead in the fifth minute when Ryan Leigh flicked the ball on for Steve Freear to lob the goalie.
Green Dragon hit back to equalise in the 10th minute when Jason Westmacott headed on a corner to give David Gilbert an easy chance from close range. Two goals in two minutes by Green Dragon put them well on top, the first in the 15th minute saw a free kick from Matt Beale find Sean Davies who made no mistake. In the 17th minute it became a tale of the Beale brothers when Matt Beale sent in a superb cross, which found brother Mike who scored from close range. The brothers combined again in the 44th minute when an excellent through ball by Matt found Mike Beale running clear to make it 4-1 at half time.
Kempsey deservedly pulled a goal back in the 70th minute when Ryan Leigh ran onto a through ball and made no mistake with his shot. Despite pressing forward Kempsey could not score again and Green Dragon held on comfortably to take the cup 4-2.
Man of the match was Kempsey United's Steve Freear.
