ON a blustery afternoon Malvern Town Wanderers became Mercian Elgar U13s Junior League champions with one game remaining.
LITTLETON U13s 1, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U13s 8
A nervous first half saw Wanderers' stand-in keeper Chris Styles pull off some good saves, with Callum Campbell, James Lush and Luke Borton all going close, and solid defending from the back three, who not only had the slope but also the wind to contend with. Littleton opened the scoring after 19 minutes during a spell of pressure but this seemed to steady Wanderers who equalised when a good pass from Callum Campbell found Ryan Mansbridge in the 32nd minute. Just before half time a Luke Butler shot was saved and Paul Jordan's follow up shot went just wide.
Early second half pressure from Wanderers' resulted in a goal for Ryan Mansbridge from a Callum Campbell rebound. Chris Styles competently saved a Littleton free kick and on 50 minutes a Luke Borton corner found Callum Campbell's head to make it 1-3 to Wanderers. Wanderers' then found their stride with Ryan Mansbridge completing his hat-trick and adding another two goals to make his personal tally five. Ollie Mason's looping shot was saved by the good Littleton keeper and a Ryan Mansbridge corner led to a goal mouth scramble from which Lloyd Merrick scored. The match and the championship were finally secured by a Callum Campbell goal making the final score 1-8 to Wanderers.

MALVERN UNITED 1, WELLAND JUNIORS 10
THESE local rivals are at opposite ends of the table and Malvern needed all 11 players to stand any chance of getting something from this game.
Unfortunately for the home side they only had 10.
Welland opted to play up the slope in the first half and immediately put the home defence under pressure with Russell Alderson and Richard Pitt combining well on the right, creating an opportunity which Richard Pitt didn't let go to waste. Malvern's defence was ripped apart by a rampant Welland attack and four goals in four minutes from captain Joe Waldron (two), Martyn Smith and Russell Alderson made this match a foregone conclusion before 20 minutes had even been played. Richard Pitt and Russell Alderson again combined well before the interval to ensure Joe Waldron completed his promised hat-trick making the half time score 6-0.
A subdued David Reynolds scored a consolation goal for the home side shortly after the break but Welland's elusive Russell Alderson replied within two minutes scoring a magnificent solo goal. Further goals from Richard Pitt and Alderson (two) completed the 1-10 scoreline.
Man of the match, sponsored by Tony Waldron, was Russell Alderson.
WORCESTER JUNIORS U13s 1
NEWTOWN SPORTS U13s 11
AFTER creating all the early pressure and squandering several chances Newtown found themselves a goal down when a mix-up allowed Juniors in to score.
Newtown responded by immediately equalising and then taking the lead through the impressive Dan Jeynes.
After the break Newtown completely dominated the game and the strength of Harris and Hammond in the Newtown midfield and the interplay of Jeynes and Ferguson up front caused Juniors numerous problems. Jamie Ferguson added two goals soon after the break, one a neat header, before setting up Phil Harris and Dan Jeynes to extend the lead. Two excellent finishes from Ricky Buckland followed and a couple more goals for Jeynes, taking his tally to five. Mark Holbrow scrambled in a late goal to take the total to 11. With still five games to play in the league and a cup final next week, Newtown have a busy end of season schedule.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U12s 2,
NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U12s 4
NEWTOWN Sports Colts visited local rivals Malvern Town Wanderers on Sunday.
It was the Wanderers who took the lead when following a strong run that beat the Colts defence, the Wanderers attacker slotted the ball home passed Johnson in goal. The Colts responded well and Twinberrow soon equalised following some good work by Jaye. The Colts took the lead through Gath with a great strike from the edge of the box.
After the break the Colts played a little better and matched the determination of the Wanderers, however they couldn't find any openings and it was the Wanderers who scored the next goal. Another strong run from a Wanderers attacker saw them equalise. Hale came on for the Colts, making his return after a long injury, as the Colts looked to gain the ascendancy. They then took the lead when Gath converted a penalty kick at the second attempt. The Colts passed the ball a little better and, following one of their best moves, Twinberrow powerfully headed in Edwards' cross to put the result beyond doubt against a spirited Wanderers side.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS U12s 7,
LYPPARD BOYS U12s 0
NEWTOWN took their time to break down the ten players of Lyppard.
The opening goal came after 20 minutes when Mason was tripped in the box, Butler took the resulting penalty and fired powerfully home. Preece added a second when his shot from the edge of the box flew into the roof of the net. Newtown's third came from Mason whose angled shot completed the scoring for the first half.
In the second half Newtown made better use of the spare man and constantly threatened Lyppard's goal. Gilks scored a glancing header from a corner and Butler scored his second when he struck low into the bottom left hand corner. May added a sixth when he hit a superb long range effort which gave the keeper no chance. Gilks scored his second with another headed goal.
Credit must go to the ten Lyppard players who gave a spirited performance.
Newtown's man of the match was Ollie Lean.
NEWTOWN JUNIORS U12s 3, CLAINES U12s 0
NEWTOWN travelled to a windswept Perdiswell and produced a confident display against an improved Claines.
Several chances were created before the opening goal came. Robinson's cross found Preece who passed through to Gittens who coolly shot past the oncoming keeper. Claines tried to respond but Spicer in goal was not really tested.
The second half continued in much the same fashion as the first. Mason, who worked hard for the team, crossed to Butler but his shot went wide and May had a shot well saved before Juniors scored their second. Mason played the ball through to Butler whose strong run and shot could only be parried into the net by the Claines keeper. Claines again responded but squandered a good opportunity before Newtown grabbed a third. Good work by Preece in the box saw him pick out Butler whose sharp turn and shot found the back of the net.
A good all round team effort ensured another three points and a second consecutive clean sheet.
Newtown's man of the match was Lee Mason.
Newtown are sponsored by Wells Joinery.
WELLAND JUNIORS U12s 4, SUCKLEY U12s 0
THE end of season fixture congestion caught up on a brave Suckley team as they conceded four goals in the last ten minutes against Welland.
Having played a re-scheduled game on Saturday, Suckley visited Welland on Sunday and were unlucky not to get a draw. The game was played in difficult conditions and an uneventful first half ended scoreless.
Welland dominated possession in the second half but created very few clear cut chances. In the end it took direct run by Will Brown to break down the Suckley defence, his angled shot going in via a deflection. Further goals followed from Andrew Jones and Josh Lewis before Josh Lewis scored right on the final whistle to give a flattering four goal margin.
Welland man of the match was Will Brown.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U11s 3,
SUFFOLK RANGERS U11s 1
MALVERN Town Wanderers completed their mini soccer fixtures with victory over Suffolk Rangers on Saturday to remain undefeated in league and cup competitions for the last three years.
It was the visitors with their ambitions to finish as runners up in the league who were quickest out of the blocks however and they deservedly took the lead when Jamie Insall's looping header found the back of the net. Malvern were soon back on level terms when Josh Asquith scrambled the ball over the line from close range after excellent work on the right wing by Douglas Howie.
In the second half Jack Bottomley made an immediate impact on the game when he drilled the ball past Suffolk's keeper after a surging run down the left wing to give Wanderers the lead. The consistently influential Alex Wren dominated play from midfield whilst Adam Mayo showed great calmness under pressure in defence. Malvern's keeper Ben Wheeler played exceptionally well with his safe handling and it was his excellent distribution which set up Josh Asquith to score Malvern's final goal with a left foot shot after a mazy run.
Congratulations to all the players past and present on a fantastic achievement.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS U11s 0, NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U11s 4
THIS was a game high on effort and commitment from both sides, and the quality of the football played created chances for both teams.
For the first ten minutes it was constant attack from Newtown, who restricted Wanderers to the occasional break. Half way through the first half, Newtown's attacking football nearly brought the first goal, after some excellent one-touch football set Hunt up for a chip shot, which clipped the bar. Just before the break, it was a pinpoint pass from Louis Loader that created a well taken goal for Andy Matthews, to put Newtown one up. Loader then repeated his action, with a long range pass through to Josh White, for a simple tap in.
The second half saw Newtown go three up early, after Mike Roskhams, Andy Matthews and Josh White set up Louis Loader for a brilliant lob over the keeper. Newtown were now going for goal in earnest and it was Richard Higgs who scored Newtown's fourth with an unstoppable drive after the ball was cleared out of the box.
OLDBURY PARK TIGERS 1,
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 1
THREE teams playing this weekend were all looking to secure the league's runners up spot.
Warndon Villages Beavers with a one point advantage over the Wanderers and the Tigers, playing their last match at home to Hadley, this fixture could have decided who would be runners up.
The Tigers started off brightly and were soon peppering the Wanderers goal with shots. After just five minutes some poor defending and some good attacking play resulted in the Tigers taking the lead. For the rest of the first half the Wanderers looked sluggish and at times were completely outplayed.
The second half saw the Wanderers come out determined and they enjoyed much of the play. Ali Hunt, Tom Bottomley, Chris Jeffrey and Ryan Scullion all came close and the passing and movement from the whole team was at times very good.
As the minutes passed the Wanderers kept threatening to score but as the game entered the last minute the Tigers looked set to secure a victory. A succession of corners for the Wanderers had produced several scoring opportunities but no goals. The last corner saw all the Wanderers players moving up and as Ali Hunt swung in his corner, Tom Bottomley was on hand to rifle the ball in from close range. Seconds later the final whistle blew.
With Hadley and The Beavers drawing, The Wanderers, with one remaining game, can still secure second position. However, whatever the final outcome, football and player development will be the winner.
Wanderers' man of the match was George Herbert.
