THIS week Malvern Memories carries more pictures of the intrepid aviator Gustav Hamel, the first man to land an aeroplane in Malvern.
These have been contributed by Joan Graham, of Poolbrook, who found them in the scrapbook of her aunt Brenda.
The page from the scrapbook not only contains Mr Hamel's autograph, but also confirms the date of his visit as Thursday, February 26, 1914, and his death on May 23 the same year.
He disappeared over the English Channel while bringing a new flying machine, a Morane-Saulnier monoplane, back from Paris. At the time of his death, he was planning an attempt at crossing the the Atlantic.
