THE Malvern United Angling Association held their AGM and prize giving at the Newtown Club last Thursday where 26 members attended.
The chairman thanked members for attending and also said that he was pleased at the number of new members the club had continued to attract over the past year. This he believed was largely due to the choice of venue and quality of fishing the club now offered.
The pool at Mathon is going from strength to strength and very popular with pleasure anglers in the club, and the Severn was showing some better catches of barbel towards the back end of the season. The new stretch on the Avon at Birlingham was also proving to be a very fair match venue with anglers never knowing where the winning weight might come from.
He closed by thanking the committee for its efforts over the past season and looked forward to another good year
The match secretary Ian Goddard in his report echoed this and said that although sport had been mixed, as is the case all over the country at the moment there had been some encouraging catches including John Shaw's 35lb of barbel from the top of the Severn stretch.
Trophies were presented to the winners by Paddy Barnett, stalwart of the club for many years, and it was pleasing to see that the junior trophy had been competed for and won by Lee Dawe.
After the business of the meeting was concluded, members enjoyed a sumptuous buffet for which thanks must go once again to the committee for kindly providing.
Thanks also to the Newtown club and staff for their support.
