A PROVEN goalscorer and midfielder top Graham Turner's shopping list as the Hereford United manager bids to build a promotion challenging team.

The Bulls boss believes he has the nucleus of a side but is looking for a partner to accompany Steve Guinan up front and add some much-needed firepower to the attack.

"Obviously we are looking for a goalscorer and experienced midfielder but it's very easy to say what we want when getting them is a different matter," said Turner. "If we can make the right signings though I think we can be a force in the Conference next season."

Albano Correia is in the frame to fill one of the striking slots having scored three goals since his arrival on loan from Bristol City but Turner has yet to make a decision on the forward.

"I've got an open mind on Albano but he popped in three goals for us and I would like to see a bit more of him," he added.

"His agent is in Portugal at the moment but we will speak at some point."

Turner offered fresh contracts to Guinan, Ben Smith, Jamie Pitman and Matt Clarke who have all agreed to re-sign while offers have also been made to Rob Purdie and Richard Teesdale.

Keeper Matt Baker, Tony James, Paul Parry, Michael Rose, Andy Tretton and Rob Sawyers are still under contract for next season.

"If all the players re-sign we will have a starting squad of 13 and I will be looking to add four or five to take it up to 17 or 18," added Turner.

Club captain Ian Wright, keeper Ken Griffiths and John Grant have been released.

Parry scooped a double award at Hereford United's Independent Supporters' Association's end-of-season presentation evening, winning the player of the year and away player of the year trophies.
