A GLOWING example of vocal versatility and awesome musicianship is on offer at the Huntingdon Hall, Worcester on Friday (8pm), with an appearance by Emily Slade.
This young singer, songwriter and guitarist is generating a healthy reputation for herself on the British folk scene.
Emily's parents run one of Britain's long-standing folk clubs. Influenced by the many great musicians who have passed through her home, Emily took up the guitar at the age of nine, making her stage debut that same year.
Still in her early twenties, Emily is a seasoned performer. She has an individual guitar style that weaves through folk, blues and classical tones, with an expressive voice which is soaked in character and soul.
Within her first year as a full-time musician, Emily was asked by Phil Beer of Show of Hands to join his band, touring during September 2001.
As a soloist, Emily's choice of material ranges from haunting renditions of traditional folk to the gutsy, hard-hitting style of her own compositions. Emily's intelligent approach, musicianship and vocal versatility are bound to stamp her unique hallmark on the acoustic-folk music scene.
This performance is part of 'Passing Notes', Huntingdon Hall's groundbreaking mentoring scheme for aspiring professional folk musicians. Emily Slade has been mentoring Jackie Oates, a 20 year old fiddle player from Stafford, who will perform with Emily in concert.
