IT'S been a season of highs and lows at St George's Lane -- but for once it was mostly highs as Worcester City enjoyed a better than average season.
Sixth place was their best final placing in seven years, and for a large part of the season there was real hope that at long last the club could return to its rightful home in the Conference.
It didn't happen, but John Barton's side has still given City fans plenty to savour. Here's a selection of some of the best -- and worst -- moments of the 2002-03 season in my opinion.
Best moment: Winning at eventual champions Tamworth, giving over 500 travelling fans belief that City really could win the title. Strangely it's the first time in 14 years that City have recorded a league victory over the team that went on to finish top. Beating runaway Ryman League winners Aldershot in the FA Trophy was not far behind.
Worst moment: Losing in the FA Cup at Hucknall, a game which City dominated only for their failings in front of goal to come home to roost. Slipping to a late Trophy defeat at home to an average Margate side ran it close.
Best individual display: Danny McDonnell against Tamworth both home and away -- City would have lost both games convincingly but for him.
Biggest let-down: Attracting a bumper crowd of 2,711 to the centenary game against Stafford only to lose 3-0 and surrender their unbeaten record.
Best team performance: The first-half display at home to Chelmsford when City led 4-0 at the break and could easily have doubled it.
Worst team performance: An abject 1-0 defeat at Bath.
Best goal: David Holmes' curling shot to rescue a point at home to Welling.
Turning point of the season: John Snape's injury at Tamworth -- the key midfielder's absence at a crucial stage proved costly.
Best comeback: Winning 3-2 at Grantham after being two goals down.
Player of the season: Danny McDonnell who earned City so many points through his goalkeeping displays, followed by Adam Webster who improved tremendously as the season went on.
n Manager John Barton and his management team will answer questions from fans at an open forum to be held at the club on Monday (May 12).
The forum will start in the social club at St George's Lane at 7pm and will be followed by the supporters' club's annual meeting.
