THE Corbett Group of WIs held their spring meeting at the Sacred Heart Church Hall. The afternoon was hosted by Hadzor and Oddingley.
Margaret Shearer, the president, welcomed our group co-ordinator Enid Fellows and WI executive Vicky Coghlan, together with over 100 WI members. Vicky Coghlan spoke about her role as chairman of home economics and craft and reminded us about the food, flower and craft day to be held at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Bewdley, in May. She had brought with her the new banner which, although not quite complete, was hung up for everyone to admire.
Our speaker for the afternoon was Nicky Dow, who gave us a brief history of her career in horticulture and a demonstration on hanging baskets and containers. A vote of thanks was given by Jennifer Carter.
A typically delicious WI tea was served after which members were given a bag of scraps and challenged to make an Easter bonnet. These proved colourful, amusing and artistic and an Easter parade took place round the tables. The winners were Himbleton WI. The Easter raffle raised £104 for The Acorns Children's Hospice. A vote of thanks was given by Margaret Bazley, of Himbleton, to Hadzor and Oddingley WI for organising a really super entertaining afternoon. Himbleton will be organising our autumn event.
