A PROMISING young Droitwich Spa golfer continues to impress despite being hampered by illness.
Amanda Purcell, aged 15, is currently recovering from the debilitating glandular fever virus, which has kept her away from her King's School, in Worcester, for two months.
Before that, she broke her foot and spent three weeks in plaster.
Yet, at the end of last month, Amanda returned to competitive action to fire a one over par 73 at Gaudet Luce Golf Club, in Hadzor.
The result, in the club's junior tournament, saw her reduce her handicap to 8.4 and claim the club record of lowest gross score for a lady.
Amanda, of Bromsgrove Road, has made huge strides in the sport, having dramatically brought her handicap down from 54 in three years. She aimed to cut that to 12 by last December and bettered it with ten.
And she hopes to reduce that figure still further to four before she is 18 so she can start training with the Professional Golfers Association.
