WHEN I came to Kidderminster in 1961, this was a lovely market town. Now it is a shambles.

There is no more market, our lovely library building was torn down for the monstrosity that now parades as a library, and just look at what they have put up next door. It looks like an aircraft hangar.

No, we must preserve any old building that is left. Why not use the Piano Building for a museum, art gallery or carpet museum?

Then there is the old building at the end of Park Lane. Why doesn't a developer turn that into flats for seniors citizens? It is near the town, and ideal.

Some years ago the Shuttle/Times & News printed a poem about the destruction of this town. It was on the lines of William Wordsworth's I Remember. How true that was.

I AM personally not interested whether Kidderminster has a cinema or not, as it will probably be too expensive for most families to afford regular visits.

Why, though, is the "Piano Building or nothing" now the only choice being offered?. The Homebase shell on Crossley Park was the best option for me.

The Piano Building should be renovated (look at the Green Street redevelopment as a positive example) and used as a market hall and maybe even small retail units as an alternative to the big chains that make this and every other town clones.

The vacant plot left by moving the indoor market from Worcester Street could be redeveloped along with the neighbouring old courthouse to make a small cinema (similar to Bridgnorth) with maybe even covered walkways to the Glades (another expensive waste of local money).

Then all that will be needed is an increase in parking spaces!
