VOLLEYBALL: Cleobury Mortimer Ladies clinched West Midlands League Division One with a vital 3-0 win over title rivals Birmingham University.
The villagers triumphed 25-18, 25-13, 25-21 over straight sets after an early injury to one of Birmingham's main hitters.
Cleobury put on an excellent passing show, especially from Ellie White, while Becky Brookes setted well with Sam Harding and skipper Katherine Skelhorn also prominent.
Outstanding middle hitting from Sophie Cooke was a feature of the second set, while junior Jessica Hinwood also impressed.
Cleobury almost paid for a relaxed approach late on but excellent defensive play by Lucy Nash kept the visitors at bay before two important points from Louise Rochelle sealed victory.
Cooke was player-of-the-game in an excellent team display as Cleobury took the league on the number of sets won. They tied on points with three other teams.
Cleobury turn their attentions to the cup semi-final where Birmingham will get the chance for revenge.
The men's team lost 3-1 to Redhill in the Hereford and Worcester League the previous week.
