VIKRAM Solanki admitted to being 'pretty pleased' with his career-best 164 not out which helped Worcestershire crush the Worcestershire Cricket Board by 170 runs in yesterday's C&G Trophy clash at New Road.
His man-of-the-match innings went a long way towards helping the County book a home fourth round tie against holders Yorkshire on Wednesday, May 28.
It was Solanki's highest limited-over score and his second century in the Trophy following the 108 he hit off the Nottinghamshire attack at Trent Bridge last season.
Yesterday's knock contained three sixes and 20 fours off 170 balls and afterwards he said: "I'm pretty pleased with the way I played. I've no complaints.
"There's been a couple of times this season when I've got in and should have really gone on, but I'm generally happy with the way I'm hitting the ball."
He added: "I think we played well. We aimed to pick ourselves up after the close game with Surrey on Monday when we probably didn't do some of the things we talk about in our game plan. It's a reflection on us that we have come up from a loss and put in a professional performance."
After being put in, the County piled up 311-4 with Solanki putting on 128 in 22 overs for the third wicket with skipper Ben Smith, who fell for 44.
During his 204 minutes in the middle he also put on a further 56 with Kadeer Ali (20) and an undefeated 52 with Kabir Ali (23 not out).
Facing such a daunting task, the Board batsmen fell at regularly intervals but managed to survive being bowled out by ending on 141-9.
Their highest scorer was ex-County batsman Abdul Hafeez with 28, while former long-serving Worcestershire all-rounder Stuart Lampitt, who left New Road at the end of last season to become the Board's Cricket Development Officer, made an unbeaten 26.
Worcestershire now face a Yorkshire side who made progress yesterday by beating Cambridgeshire by 85 runs.
Solanki said of the forthcoming Tykes tie: "They are a decent side and especially strong in the bowling department. It will be a good game. If it's a decent day, then hopefully there will be a decent crowd and a good atmosphere."
