A FAMILY business is proving quality and attention to detail in the construction industry are far from dead.
In an age when many people criticise new-build homes for their poor quality, Roland Jones Homes Ltd is going in the opposite direction and making quality a priority.
The small family business, based in Little Comberton, near Pershore, has recently won an award in the Daily Express British Housebuilder Awards.
The awards are designed to raise the standard of new homes and are voted for by customers who have bought new homes built by the entrants.
Roland Jones, a surveyor who started the company 30 years ago, collected the quality award last month at a glittering ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, with his son, Christian, who has joined the firm.
Proud mum Heather Jones said Christian, who is particularly interested in land acquisition, brought "new blood" to a firm that had always prided itself on quality.
"My husband Roland is passionate about quality and has really first-class taste," said Heather, who works "shoulder to shoulder" with her husband and is in charge of advertising and marketing.
"He has an exceptional eye for detail and this filters into every department. The expression "detail makes perfection but perfection is no detail" can often be heard coming from his office!
"Christian will carry on this tradition but will also bring the best of youth to the team with his youthful zest and enthusiasm, skill and tenacity."
There was a record number of entries this year into what are known as the house building "Oscars", with just 50 house builders short-listed from a total of 352 entrants.
About 60,000 questionnaires were sent out to purchasers of new homes,
"This year our purchasers voted 100 per cent that they would buy another Roland Jones Home, which is quite an accolade!" said Mrs Jones, who is also involved in the design of kitchens, bathrooms and interiors of the show houses.
"We are thrilled and delighted with our award and acknowledge the achievement of the whole team at Roland Jones Homes.
"We feel that everyone can be justly proud of their efforts."
Recent developments by Roland Jones Homes include Fairfax House, comprising six modern apartments, in Worcester's Fish Street, two country houses in Eckington, near Pershore, five large, individual houses in Malvern, and two new country houses in Fairfield, near Bromsgrove.
