THE mystery surrounding how and where a Worcester police officer contracted Legionnaires Disease may never be solved, say health officials.
Environmental health officers have carried out tests at the policeman's Worcester home and cooling systems and water vapour sources around the city, but the source has not yet been found.
"They are still looking," said Janet Ferguson, South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust spokeswoman.
Long time
"They may not be able to find the source but they are certainly trying. They won't finish in the next day or two. It will take a long time."
She also confirmed the officer had not been out of the country recently.
However, Tim Davies director of public health in Worcestershire, stressed members of the public and staff at the police station were not in danger of infection.
The officer, who has not been identified, is today still in a critical but stable condition at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
