THE service at St Mary the Virgin Church in Upleadon on Sunday is evening prayer at 6pm. Jessie Williams and Rev Dr Peter Newing will be in attendance. On May 18 there will be parish communion at 9.30am with Jessie Williams and Rev Andrew Perry.

A whist drive was held for Upleadon Over 60's Club funds on Monday, April 28, so this month there will be bingo. This is on Monday, May 26, in Upleadon Village Hall at 7.30pm.

Contact Gerald or Christine Draper on (01531) 820043 to book a place or to receive information on the wine buff of the year competition at Upleadon Village Hall tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm. The cost is £10 each and this is inclusive of five wines to taste from a list of suggestions. The meal will consist of a starter, main course consisting of pates/cheese/coleslaw and green salad with crusty bread and butter. This is to be followed by a sweet and coffee. Such a bargain and you are assured of a friendly welcome. By the way, the competition is also included and will contain a few not so serious wine questions of the A, B, C variety for ease of answer. Proceeds are for Upleadon Church funds.
