A successful taster day at the Arden Sailing Club saw nearly 30 people take to the water in a sailing dinghy for the first time.
The weather was almost perfect with plenty of wind in the right direction and nobody got wet. The instructors and rescue boat crew were on the water most of the day and were very tired after the session.
This probably contributed to the small turnout on Easter weekend as they were still stiff and achy; it is early in the season.
The three race series on Easter Sunday saw the single-handed Solos beating the double handed Enterprises for a change. Ralph Evans dominated all three races to win the goodies second and second in all the races was another new Solo sailor Andrew Potts and third was the first Enterprise sailed by Stuart Stevens and his daughter Caroline.
Following that was the annual challenge at Evesham Sailing Club.
This was raced in really windy conditions with plenty of capsizes and real excitement for the crowd watching from the bank.
After race one Evesham led by one point but the weather conditions prevailed against their lighter boats and races two and three went to Arden, giving them a 21-point lead to carry over to the second leg at Arden in September.
There was as always a really good atmosphere with everybody enjoying an exhilarating day. This was rounded of by the presentation of the individual prizes. First place going to Niall Campbell and his great crew, Jane Smee.
If anybody missed the taster day don't despair, there will be another on June 8, or come and have a chat on Sunday afternoons. Contact Ray on (01386) 554109 or Helen on (01905) 23298.
