THE Wayne Philpotts Memorial Shield final at Langland Stadium on Sunday was always going to be an evenly contested affair between the Mercian League's top two sides.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U14s 1, MOSTYN RANGERS U14s 0
It was Mostyn who broke into their stride the quickest putting the Wanderers on the defensive, with the back three of Kris Denslow, Matt Bayer and Micky Pearson coping admirably and protecting the competent Ashley Bennett.
Wanderers then came more into the game with Luke Arnold and Zach Blood going close on more than one occasion. The safe handling of Ashley Bennett kept the ship steady and the midfield five of Shaun Carrey, Tom Chadney, Bruce Rogers, Scott Roberts and Matt Hopwood were influential.
With the second half still scoreless and extra time beckoning a reshuffle introducing Tom White, Matt Lakey and Craig Richards proved dividends as Luke Arnold powered home an unstoppable 40 yard shot to lift the trophy for the Wanderers.
