LUCTONIANS will be looking to make up for the disappointment of missing out on promotion to National Three North by winning the North Midlands Cup for the first time when they play Aston OE in the final at Stourbridge tomorrow (3pm).
The Herefordshire club, who were beaten by Macclesfield in a promotion play-off, have only reached the county cup final once before, back in 1975 when they were beaten 21-3 by Dixonians.
"We have had an excellent season, but we were disappointed to miss out on promotion and we would like to have something to show for our efforts," said David Thomas, the Luctonians' chairman.
Aston OE, who won the Midlands Three West North title, reached the North Midlands Cup final for the first time last season where they were comfortably beaten by Malvern.
"We believe that we are a stronger team this year," said Aston's director of rugby Derek Coles.
The clubs last met in an Intermediate Cup match last season when Luctonians won 23-13.
"That was a scoreline that flattered us because we scored a late try so we are expecting another hard battle," said Thomas. "They are a club that we enjoy playing against so it will be a friendly final but with no quarter given or expected."
Luctonians flanker Dwayne Cadwallader will be back on club duty having helped the Army defeat the Royal Navy at Twickenham last Saturday.
Aston's teams include a smattering of former Moseley players including Allan Mitchell, Harry Vlhakis and Mark Young.
