I FULLY agree with G Morris (You Say, Thursday, May 1) about the installation of revenue-raising speed cameras in the pretence of safety.

These cameras will not catch the drivers who put all our lives at risk - that is, the deliberately reckless speeders, the aggressive drivers, the tail-gaters, the joy riders and so on.

These cameras are most likely to catch good law-abiding drivers who, probably through momentary lapses of concentration, break an often arbitrary speed limit.

The consequence for committing what is a minor traffic infringement can be far out of proportion to the "crime" they have committed - loss of licence leading to loss of job/income, causing real family suffering and very embittered individuals.
