PLANS to employ a traffic warden in Droitwich Spa have been welcomed by a town trader and councillor.

West Mercia police is seeking to fill a full-time position in the town, following long periods of intermittent enforcement of parking regulations.

The news has been given a big thumbs up by Droitwich Spa town councillor Jan Bolton (Con -East) has campaigned for a crackdown on drivers parking indiscriminately around the Spa.

She says many motorists abuse the short stay spaces in High Street by staying all day and said parking rules in Victoria Square are regularly flouted.

"I'm delighted to see the police are taking action and I look forward to seeing a traffic warden patrolling the town again," added Cllr Bolton, who owns Executive Cleaners in High Street.

"Everyday I see shoppers who just want to pull up outside my shop, the bakers or butchers struggle to find a space.

"This is because selfish people, including some traders, I am sorry to say, dump their cars all day. It's not fair and it's about time action was taken."

A job advert in the Advertiser reveals the new warden will work 37 hours per week, including Saturdays. For more details about the post, call 01905 455051.
