TACKLING anti-social behaviour is at the forefront of plans to introduce up to five new community support officers to the streets of Redditch.

The Government recently announced £206,000 funding for a scheme which should bring as many as 30 Community Support Officers to the West Mercia Force.

Jacqui Smith MP welcomed the prospect of the officers coming to the town to help police tackle anti-social behaviour and carry out visible community patrols.

The officers are a key part of the Police Reform Programme and have already proved successful, with communities in the 27 forces where they have already been deployed.
