REDDITCH triathlete Maureen Langston won herself a plce in the World and/or European Champion-ships by finishing second at the National Duathlon Championships at the weekend.
The Redditch Triathlon Club star came second in the over 50s age group at Cambridge with the top five winning automatic selection for the World/Euros.
Each athlete had to run 4.75 miles, cycle 23 miles and run the 4.75 miles again.
Langston was soon well placed and completed the first foot race in 34min 8sec.
At the end of the two lap bike race Langston had moved up three places to second.
The final gruelling run was also windy but she held on to her place beating several younger women and some of the men with a 41min 13sec run.
Clubmate Andrew Sargent, also in the over 50s group, worked hard to stay in contention on the first run with a rapid 26min 39sec.
He lost ground on the bike with a time of 1hr 9min 16sec but a gutsy last run of 28min 55sec gave Andrew third.
Dave Brearly, in the over 55s group, ran below par with 31min 28sec for the first run but pulled up places on the bike with 1hr 10min 38sec.
His final run of 34min 7sec gave him eighth place.
He had to wait for a team management decision before he too was awarded a GB veteran team place as one of five concessionary places on offer.
