A VENUE mix-up almost spoiled Bromsgrove Cricket Club's chances of a double success last weekend.
Nick Husbands' won by 16 runs at Kenilworth Wardens in Birmingham and District division one on Saturday and saw off Cheltenham by eight wickets in the National Knockout 24 hours later.
But the Cheltenham match could have turned to disaster when both sides set off for the others' ground before a telephone call from Cheltenham confirmed the game was due to be played at St Godwalds.
On Saturday, Bromsgrove batted first against a Kenilworth side they had never beaten before in the league.
The Boars steadily progressed to 25 before Nick Davies (9) was caught behind off Henderson. Simon Keyte (24) looked in great touch before he was unexpectedly removed off the bowling of Gurr.
Paul Duffy was eventually out for and excellent 85 and Barnes (20 not out) finished things off to post 189-6 from 55 overs.
Barr and Stenning rattled up 53 runs for the first wicket inside14 overs in reply.
Husbands trapped Stenning (26) LBW but the introduction of spinner Kish Patel saw him take 5-42 while Jamie Campbell took four catches at mid-on.
Kenilworth needed 35 from eight overs with two wickets left. Worcestershire's Jon Farrow removed Gurr (7) and Barr (25) in a quick spell to give the Boars victory.
On Sunday, Cheltenham batted first, subjecting Bromsgrove to a lively opening partnership of 82 in just 18 overs.
The introduction of Mark Evenson and Nick Reade slowed the run rate down and picked up crucial wickets. Cheltenham struggled to regain momentum and posted 195-6 from 45 overs.
Keyte and Davies paired up well and put on a match-winning 125 for the first wicket. Davies was finally out for 74, an innings that included nine fours and two sixes.
Keyte (79no) played the anchor role and was supported by Campbell (17no) as he won the game with a six in the 43rd over.
