GAVIN Poupart was the top Worcester finisher at Worcester St John's Cycling Club's Spring Road Race.
Poupart came in 10th in the race held on the Inkberrow circuit as a full field of 70 riders competed.
Action was fast and furious from the start with many attacks until at the end of the first lap 10 riders, including Worcester-based Poupart, pulled clear of the main field on the climb through the finish area.
Working well together the leading group quickly established a lead of two minutes over the main field.
A chasing group of nine, with Poupart's team mate Steve Dring from Worcester, set off to try and bridge the gap.
The leaders split on the last lap with six riders going on to contest the sprint which was won in fine style by Darren Atkins of MI Racing, Coventry.
Ian Bendall, from South Wales, took second place while Nigel Williams, of Maidenhead, came third
Poupart finished in 10th place just ahead of the chasing group led home by Dring in 11th.
Meanwhile another splinter group had left the main field with Paul Dring winning the sprint for 20th place.
