Wedding bells will be chiming for a navy nurse in Bromsgrove this summer now that the war in Iraq is over.
Lisa Mullen, who was stationed on the hospital ship RFA Argus in the Gulf for four months, has finally returned to England in time for her wedding.
But it was a close call for the Church Road resident who, only a month ago, feared that she would not be home in time for her marriage to Petty Officer Wayne D'andilly on June 14.
"I returned two weeks ago and am delighted to be back in time," Lisa said.
"We were never given an exact date when we would return to England and there were concerns I would not be back in time for the wedding."
Highly-trained
As the Navy's only highly-trained nurse specialising in burns injuries, Lisa was one of the first 50 nurses into Iraq to give aid when the fighting stopped.
She treated many soldiers and children along with the crew on an American hospital ship which acted as back-up.
"I had never been away for so long before but we were well trained and always prepared for it," she said.
The bubbly 30-year-old joined the Navy after leaving North Bromsgrove High School 12 years ago and is usually based at Selly Oak hospital dealing with military casualties.
Friends from the Royal Air Force, the Army and the Royal Navy will join the devoted couple for their big day in June.
The wedding will take place at St John's Church off Kidderminster Road, followed by a reception at Hanbury Hall near Droitwich Spa.
