PLANS for a 15-metre radio mast for emergency services is causing concern for Oversley Green residents.
The proposals for the monopole mast, supporting three antennas, one dish and equipment cabin based at the Severn Trent Water site, Mill Lane, has been applied for by Mm02 Airwave Ltd.
But residents have complained with concerns over health risks, the height of the mast and the lack of time for residents to comment on the plans.
Newly elected Alcester Town Councillor for Oversley Green, Nina Knapman, said she had many concerns about the proposed mast.
The applicants said the new national radio communications service for the police was due to be introduced into Warwickshire in 2003 and the police force required very substantial and specific geographical and radio coverage to avoid communication blackspots, which could prejudice the safety of communities and individual officers.
A site for a new mast on the edge of the Arden Forest Industrial Estate was refused in September 2002.
And the use of the fire station in Alcester has not been pursued as the brigade was unwilling to lease the room to Airwave and local opposition to the antennas was expected to be robust.
Planning officers have recommended the plans be granted and councillors will decide tomorrow.
