A CHALLENGING project to provide flood relief on a Worcestershire road is nearly complete.

The raising of the A4103 at Teme Bridge, near Bransford, Worcester, is to ensure the road does not become flooded.

It includes raising more than 700yds of road by approximately one yard and constructing 10 large flood relief culverts, each of approximately 6ft in diameter.

Temporary traffic lights have been in constant use since work started in March and for two weeks the road was completely closed to enable the culverts to be constructed and the road built over the top.

"Thanks to a combination of good weather and 24-hour working by our contractors the culvert construction was completed on target and the overall improvement is now nearing completion," said Mike Davis, Highways Partnership manager.

"The works have, however, caused inconvenience to local residents, businesses and also to motorists who have experienced delays.

"I would like to thank all those affected for their understanding and co-operation during the construction of this significant flood relief scheme."

The scheme has been a collaboration between the Worcestershire Highways Partnership, consultants Halcrow and contractors Laser Civil engineering.
