A MEDIA student has kick-started his career by winning a national marketing competition.
Steven Fessey walked away with a Gold Award from The Marketeer Association after bowling over judges with a thought-provoking poster for the Imperial War Museum.
The 20-year-old from Worcester College of Technology stole the show from 400 other hopefuls from colleges, universities and art schools who entered the Rose Student Advertising Awards.
As part of his prize, the HND student has scooped a week's paid work experience with one of Manchester's top advertising agencies.
He has yet to choose, but is considering TV commercial outfits Like A River or The Source.
Course leader Sharon Goode said it was an incredible achievement.
"I entered all nine of our multi-media students and couldn't believe it when Steven was selected," she said.
"I think the main reason he won is because he answered the brief so well."
Camouflaged
Although the competition's theme was Blending In, Steven's entry, co-ordinated by graphics lecturer Ian Reynolds, stood out.
Depicting how war affects lives, the words "You can't hide the past" were superimposed over camouflaged biplanes.
More than 70 students made the final part of the competition, who were then whittled down to 12 by representatives from top design companies.
A winning trio was plucked from the group before Steven, of Bevere, Worcester, walked away with the crown.
Principal of Worcester College of Technology, Chris Morecroft, said he was extremely proud.
"This award is an amazing achievement for Steven and everyone at the college," he said.
"His lecturers are incredibly proud of the creative work that was produced".
