UNTIL I saw the pictures in the Shuttle/Times and News, I was under the impression the Piano Building was the beautiful one in front of an equally lovely chimney stack.

I am a keen cinema-goer and would dearly love one in Kidderminster, however I also like old, beautiful buildings.

But now I see which building it is, I can't see what all the argument is about. Why not keep the stack and the other building, and knock the ugly one down?

Until the picture in the newspaper I had never seen it from the air, and I doubt if many other people have either.

Let us have entertainment for everyone in the area (a cinema is for every age), and not just endless shops.

I FEEL that highlighting the lack of recreational facilities, in particular a cinema, in Kidderminster, is a positive move on the part of the Shuttle/Times and News.

However, I am surprised that you choose to adopt such a divisive approach by choosing to promote a two-horse race, the Piano Building, or a cinema - one or the other.

Your article of April 24 stated: "When the result (of the referendum) is known, we will endeavour to bring together the civic society, Highstone and developer Centros Miller to try and work out an agreed way forward".

Would it not make sense to bring the parties together before the results are known, before positions have set and attitudes hardened?

Otherwise, whosoever tops the poll will feel in a position of advantage and be unlikely to take on board the views of the "loser"

Regarding the cinema debate, do you think any of our misguided civic society friends would like to have worked in that windowless building?

The Piano Building stands only as a reminder of man's inhumanity to man and would be far better demolished.

IF the Piano Building is retained, it should have a large neon sign on top with the names of those who gave it listed building status.

This would also help to direct the thousands of tourists who are going to flock to see this redundant monstrosity.

WITH reference to the proposed cinema in Kidderminster. How about re-siting the Green Street council depot out of town to perhaps the old sugar beet factory site and building the cinema on the depot site? After all the depot is a bit of an eyesore when viewed from the ring road.

WHY not transfer all business from Crown House into the Piano Building?

Demolish Crown House and build a cinema on the site.
