PLAYING FIELD ASSOCIATION: The AGM was held in the village hall last Tuesday evening with Roger Beard in the chair. Committee members present were Sheila Hemming, Jean McClymont, John Cocks and Keith Seager, representing the parish council. The chairman praised the work done in the last year by the committee, special mention being made to the secretary, Lynn Merrick and treasurer Jenny Cocks.
He said this summer will see the provision of a practice strip for use by cricketers, additions made to the pathways, a play area created for the younger children with provision for mothers to sit and supervise nearby, a picnic area with tables and bench seating and (later) substantial tree planting. He spoke enthusiastically about bringing to fruition the plan and he thanked everybody who is working with him to make this possible. Commenting on the vandalism which he agreed does, certainly, take place, he stressed that undue emphasis must not be put on this.
The election of officers then took place and it was quickly apparent that everyone present wished the make-up of the executive committee to stay as it is. The meeting ended on a very promising and positive note, the only dispiriting item coming at the end when everybody spoke unanimously in their condemnation of dog-walkers who allow their dogs to foul indiscriminately.
FASCINATING RHYTHM: A group of five songsters and their musical director, gave a lively and entertaining performance in the village hall, all the profits being donated by them to village hall funds.
TREASURE HUNT: St James' Church has organised a Treasure Hunt on Sunday afternoon and invites anyone interested to take part. The trail takes participants to all four churches in the ARCH benefice - Abbot's Morton, Rous Lench, Church Lench and Harvington itself - any one of which can be used as the starting point. At the first church of your choice, you will pay a small fee of £1 per head of the occupants of a car, complete the 10-question sheet provided (one person acting as scribe) then drive on to the next church of your choice where the process will be repeated. On completion of the final (fourth) question sheet, all return to Harvington village hall where a cream tea will be served. Enquiries to Kay Barratt, on 871125.
