MARTIAL ARTS: The first student has gained a black belt under the wing of third dan senior instructor David Hand at Kidderminster Warriors Eskrima Club.
Brian Smith, who runs Stourport UK Kick-boxing Club, was training with Hand for around 18 months and had the advantage of many years of studying other arts, like jeet kune do (JKD).
Warriors have been teaching eskrima, a weapons-based skill from the Philippines which was introduced to the west by the late Bruce Lee, for two years in the town.
Smith's grading was attended by one of the UK's leading eskrima instructors Guro Krishna Godhania, one of Hand's instructors and head of the association in Europe.
