I SEE the anti-vehicle brigade have been let loose on our road system again.
This time they have decided that the Bewdley Road-Lickhill Road junction at Burlish Crossing was due for a slow-down scheme.
Having had such success in turning a perfectly good dual carriageway into a virtual single lane road (while still leaving the real problem of minor road crossovers in place) on the A449, they then introduced "anytime day or night" delays by installing lights at the black bridge.
They were, no doubt, disappointed at not being able to make permanent the convoy system so effectively employed two weeks beforehand, and three weeks after the re-surfacing of their now single-lane masterpiece.
Despite this setback they have now completed the new lights sequence at Burlish Crossing with astounding success.
On Friday, from 3pm until at least 6pm, they were able to establish tailbacks in all four directions for almost all of the three hours.
There were, I admit, a few minutes when the Lickhill Road queue was down to only 15 cars, but it's early days.
What next? What about a "one-way at a time" system over the only bridge out of Stourport? That would be almost as good as the "left-turn only" scheme at Catchem's End in Bewdley.
I despair.
