THE second Centennial Qualifier was played in calm and sunny conditions at the Vale Golf and Country Club where a magnificent net 71 earned Trevor Sidwell the Division One honours.
Two shots adrift were Warwick Holland and Joe Pawlowski, while the Division Two and Three winners were Chris Enticknap (73) and R Gregg (68).
Colin Rose, with a breathtaking 45 points, got the better of Scott Downie and G Phillips who came in with equally commendable scores of 44 in the midweek stableford.
The winter Eclectic saw some impressive low scores with Mike Filleul winning in the gross and Rob Millward triumphing in the net.
The A/B team was comfortably beaten 5-1 at The Worcestershire with an equally heavy defeat at the hands of Evesham by 7-1. The only winners for the Vale were Sam Watts and Phillip Harris.
The seniors have now played two rounds of their summer eclectic and some low winning scores are predicted.
Net leader for the divisions are now Andrew Boyd (66), Peter Balshaw (65) and John Surman (65). The numbers in brackets are scores not ages!
The local seniors derby match against Evesham resulted in a 5-1 defeat but expectations are high for the return.
The seniors' committee lost on countback to the ladies' committee in their friendly.
The main event on the seniors' calendar this month is the Open on Monday, May 19. A few places are still available and any potential competitors aged over 55 should contact Rod Stroud at the club for more details.
Only the ladies team comprising Lyn Robinson, Barbara McLaren, Annie Gusterton, Debbie Smith, Liz Holz-gartner, Judy Lacey, Lily Brennan and Pat Darch maintained the club's honour over Evesham with a good 3- victory.
The mixed teams, ably marshalled and captained by Jenny Braithwaite, have recorded some notable wins.
A 5-3 victory was achieved against Ombersley whereas the 6-4 win at Brailes was the first since 1999 and regained the Gibbs-Mitchell Salver.
