"JUDGE not, lest you yourself be judged", Scripture warns us. Mr Spiteri (You Say, Thursday, May 8) would do well to remember that, rather than presume to lecture others on how to be Christians in this fallen world.

Mr Spiteri says he fails to see where Burke's view that "for the triumph of evil it is necessary only for good men to do nothing" fits in with Christ's teaching.

My understanding of a Christian's calling is that it requires me not to let evil triumph.

As the Bishop of London said recently: "Some religious talk about peace seems to be conducted at such an altitude that it can have no impact on the decisions that actually have to be made on the ground.

"Such hyper-moralism clearly lacks practical wisdom."

But Mr Spiteri's real motivation is revealed by his final words, which specify "American-led" military intervention.

Whether one's for or against such intervention, what difference does it make who led it?

Mr Spiteri's use of Christianity as a cloak for such bigotry is a lesser echo of al Qaida's perversion of Islam for similar purposes. Your readers will soon spot the true fundamentalist here.
