WYRE Forest residents are not making enough effort to speak out over plans to expand a nearby airport, a district councillor has claimed.

Wolverley's Nigel Addison said he was "disappointed" with the reaction from residents since plans were announced to develop Wolverhampton Business Airport at Halfpenny Green - and that time was running out for something to be done.

Mr Addison said: "The proposed development would affect large parts of Wyre Forest as the flight path and holding area would cover parts of Bewdley, Wolverley and Cookley.

"We have less than two months to make our views known as the government's consultation on the proposals close at the end of June."

He said "a few" residents from the district attended a packed public meeting in Wombourne, Wolverhampton on Friday - but more would be needed for the campaign to gather steam.

He said: "It is vital that Wyre Forest residents act now, and write to our MP to voice our concerns."

"It is not too late if we act now."

MP for Wyre Forest Dr Richard Taylor said: "I have told the consultation I would not object to a limited expansion for business use.

"I would, however, strongly object to an expansion to accommodate holiday and tourist traffic."
