A PLANNED 35 ft-tall illuminated sign for a new drive-through burger bar in Kidderminster town centre would be out of place, councillors will be told tonight.
Fast food giant McDonald's wants to erect the sign on the ring road near the Weavers Wharf development, which opens in October. But planners are recommending the application is thrown out when Wyre Forest District Council's planning (development control) committee meets tonight.
Planning officer Paul Round said the sign would intrude on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal conservation area as well as distracting drivers at a notorious accident spot.
He said: "The pole sign will be readily visible from the canal conservation area, to an extent that views into and from the conservation area will be mutually harmed."
Mr Round went on: "The proposed sign would cause an unwanted distraction to drivers at the point where special care and attention is needed."
