VALE Triffid Super-raft team participated in the 25th annual 100-mile River Wye raft race staged over three days.
The team of Colin Roberts, Colin Richman, Steve, Maggie Hampton, Jeff, Graeme, Andy Rattue and Gary Pick-ering were sent off first for the first leg.
On a fast high river, they managed to hold off opposition for 28 miles, only being overtaken by the eventual winners and runners-up of the race.
The Vale team claimed 18th place with a time of three hours and 52 minutes.
On the second leg between Hereford and Huntsham, the team maintained the brisk pace of the first day in spite of strong winds to gain a place with a time of 5.49.00.
The third and final day's action took the team from Huntsham through the choppy waters at Symonds Yat down through Monm-outh.
However, they encountered rudder problems at Tintern but, after a running repair, they were under way again into the estuary and on to the finish line at Chepstow Bridge.
Their third leg time of 3.54.00 gave them a finishing position of 18th in the team's best time of 13.36.00.
