THE Evesham club had an excellent turnout last Sunday to enjoy a good wind blowing up over the weir.

The first race in the Commodores Cup Series saw all the competitors staying close together for well over halfway when Ian Haywood and Roger Middleton managed to pull away.

Try as Middleton might he couldn't get his nose in front and eventually had to settle for second with Haywood taking a deserved first.

The second race saw a packed start with a dash to take the first mark of the course to the right.

Ian Edwards, in an effort to outfox his rivals, only managed to put himself into difficulties and capsized at the buoy sending the fleet into frantic manoeuvres to avoid him.

Middleton and Haywood were in a position to slip through and get away with Edwards holding everybody else up and, almost from the start, the race was virtually over.

Nevertheless, Middleton sho-wed his speed and sailed away to take a comfortable win.

Next Sunday the Common Road club is staging an open day from 12 noon until 4pm when all are welcome to go along and try their hand on the water,

Ring Ian Haywood on 01386 860573 for more information.
