A MAN left devastated by three bereavements and debts was found dead at a Malvern quarry on the day he was be moved out of his home.

Nicholas Noond sent a suicide letter to his first wife, a Stourport-on-Severn inquest heard yesterday.

Worcestershire Coroner Victor Round said the 55-year-old hotel porter, who had been divorced three times, was found dead at Earnslaw Quarry, Wyche Road, Malvern by a couple walking their dog.

He was discovered on Friday, March 14, by a couple walking their dog, lying face down in soft ground at the foot of the quarry.

Mr Round said Mr Noond had 256mg in 100ml of blood, more than three times the legal limit for driving.

"He had a history of excessive drinking and three successive be-reavements, he'd got debts, he was about to be moved," said Mr Round.

"He had talked about taking his own life."

Reading from a police report throughout the inquest, Mr Round, said Mr Noond, "a heavy drinker in his life,"and had been left devastated by the death of a girlfriend in 2001.

The inquest heard that Mr Noond, had moved back with his parents in Brook Farm Drive, Malvern.

Hospital

After his mother's death in 2001, he was admitted to hospital with a stomach ulcer. Then his father died in December that year, Mr Round said.

He added that Mr Noond's son Sean moved into Brook Farm Drive to live with him and Mr Noond then learnt he would have to move out of his local authority home.

"He was due to move out on Friday, March 14. That's the day he was found dead," said Mr Round.

He added that Mr Noond went into his son's bedroom the day before.

"He seemed depressed, saying Shall we got to heaven?" said Mr Round, reading the sons evidence.

The inquest heard that Mr Noond, was on the phone to his first wife at the Three Horseshoes Pub that same day, saying he was not going into work, he had had enough, and felt like jumping into a lake.

A suicide note arrived the next day.

"A poster on the pub wall was found to have handwriting saying 'Goodbye all, Nick'", said Mr Round.

Pathologist Geoffrey Smith found the cause of death to be shock and haemorrhaging due to multiple injuries.

The coroner recorded a verdict that he had taken his own life.
