The Friends of Adelaide House will be holding a springtime coffee morning at West Malvern's residential home for the elderly, off Park Road, tomorrow morning (Saturday) from 10.30am to noon. There will be stalls offering plants, home made cakes, china, glass and bric-a-brac, as well as a raffle. Admission costs 50p to include coffee, and accompanied children will be welcome.

Notices will be going up shortly to advertise two vacancies on the new parish council, after only five candidates accepted office at Monday's first meeting since the May 1 (non!)-election.

If there is no request for an election (candidates' applications must be supported by at least ten electors) then the council will be in a position to co-opt new members to make up the seven-strong council.

Members of the previous council who were returned unopposed are Joyce Roberts and Eric Hollands, who were re-elected unopposed as chairman and vice chairman respectively, Prof John Raine and Colin Jackson. The only new face on the council at present is that of Jan Dyer, of Old Hollow. Anyone interested in becoming a councillor either by election or co-option can contact the chairman (tel 574689) or parish clerk David Sharp (573213) for details of procedure.

An engraved stone now marks Joyner's Meadow, which is to serve as a holding area for four Galloway and two Belted Galloway cattle which the Conservators have purchased to graze the Hills. The animals are at present at Longdon awaiting the go-ahead from DEFRA for the scheme to control scrub encroachment north of the Wyche.

The stone, which has been built into a cairn above Camp Hill, has been donated under a new scheme which follows the decision of the Conservators not to accept donations for the erection of any more memorial benches on the Hills.
