The final league game of the season left Fairfield needing to win to climb to third and Redditch needing a point to improve their position.
In a goalless first half both teams played attractive, competitive football with chances at a premium.
Both sides created opportunities to take the lead with Fairfield's Godfrey being thwarted by excellent goalkeeping by Sam Tayler and solid defending by Tessa Whittingham, Kate Saint, Lucie Staniland and Sue Fletcher.
Redditch also had their chances with Sarah Edney shooting over the bar and going close when latching onto a through ball from Rachel Hopkins.
Rosy Hughes, Natalie Leroux, Becky Jones and Janine Hay also brought out the best in Fairfield's defence.
The second half was a similar story with both midfields battling for control.
With fifteen minutes to go Fairfield broke the deadlock when Godfrey pounced onto a loose ball after a well-taken corner.
Redditch reacted with determination to redress the balance and took the game to Fairfield who held on until the closing minutes when Louise Richardson's towering presence forced a corner.
Caroline Staples crossed for Rachel Hopkins to power home a headed equaliser.
