FURTHER to the article (Malvern Gazette & Ledbury Reporter, May 2) on the petition campaign by Barry Jenkins and the indomitable Doris Mitton, I say good for them, it's a crazy idea.
Having been wheelchair bound for over 40 years, I am obviously in agreement with the general intentions of the Disability Discrimination Act. It will be greatly appreciated by wheelchair users who will be able to reach public buildings without the problem of steps, but this proposal takes bureaucracy too far.
I and thousands of others, have admired the Market House from the outside for many years, but I have never felt the need to scrutinise the inside of the upper part.
As for English Heritage "not being opposed to the proposed design", try getting them to agree to a very minor change on a Grade II Listed building and you won't move for red tape. I think we have a case of double standards here. Where will it stop? Watch out for scaffolding going up on our cathedrals.
