The Newlands waste site used to recycle plastic (Your Letters, May 9) but the firm that ran it cited unprofitability as the reason for stopping this.
I believe the site is now run by a Spanish firm. Yet another example of what should be a civic amenity which is now motivated by profit and where shareholders gain precedence over the needs of local people.
Surely there are more important issues at stake here? I know from canvassing at doorsteps as a prospective councillor for the UK Independence Party that it is an issue which concerns a great many people in this area. It is in fact a scandalous disregard for environmental concerns, and one which we ignore at our peril.
Are we going to let Malvern be effectively dictated to by foreign companies when we know that more can be achieved as evidenced by the efforts made in other regions?
