KIDDERMINSTER Golf Club's Nick Underwood will be competing in the PGA Senior Club Pro Championships next week.

More than 100 experienced golf professionals, aged 50 and over, will head to Coventry Golf Club bidding for their national title.

The PGA trophy, won by the legenday Tommy Horton during its first four years from 1995 will have a new name inscribed with holder Keith MacDonal competing full time on the European Seniors Tour.

Former Kenyan and Zambian Open winner Craig Maltman is competing for the first time while former Ryder Cup players Brian Waites and Norman Wood are also expected to be challenging.

After two rounds the field of 117 will be cut to the leading 40 and ties and the prize fund of £5,000 will be resolved over Thursday's final 18 holes.

The first 20 finishers will be guaranteed a place at the De Vere PGA Seniors Championships at Carden Park at the start of August.

Meanwhile, Ombersley GC's Rob White was the toast of the club after sinking a hole in one on the par three ninth. Also on form was C. Walker who won the second midweek medal with a nett 68, gross 88.

The club's seniors enjoyed home advantage to beat Evesham GC 6-2 but then lost 5-1 to Bromsgrove.

Winston Briggs fired a nett 64 gross 80 to win senior medal while Audrey Hewitt took the ladies medal with a nett 66, gross 90.

The Ladies Jeff Wright Shield was won by Bernadette Hathway with an impressive 46 points. The Ladies Prosser Knowles Trophy was won by M. Hart & S. Wilkinson who had a nett 64.
