THE second race of the Arden Trophy series was sailed on Sunday in a strong and blustery southerly wind.

Andrew Potts (Solo) quickly established a lead which he maintained for most of the long, fast and exciting downwind leg of the first lap. Towards the end of that leg, however, he capsized, letting past Ralph Evans (Solo) and Keith Stevens (Comet). He recovered well making up sufficient ground in the next two laps to beat Keith Stevens, but he was unable to catch Ralph Evans, who won the race.

Races later in the afternoon were sailed in similar conditions but the wind had veered a point giving the dinghies a harder beat to the windward mark. Enterprise helm Stuart Stephens' efforts in the Enterprise/Burt Thurlow series were blighted when he capsized on the second beat leaving too great a deficit to recover. Keith Stevens won the Comet race and Ralph Evens recorded his second win of the day in the Burt Thurlow Handicap race.

The first Wednesday evening meeting was a pursuit race sailed in a south westerly force two to three. Racing was for the Caravan Keys trophy so named as the caravan that had served as a temporary site office, store and changing room was being dismantled. Andrew Potts (Solo) managed to catch John Tildersley in his Comet, making his first appearance of the season, after half an hour and although John made valiant attempts to get back in front, Andrew won by about 20 length.

Wednesday racing starts at 7.15pm and don't forget the taster day on June 8, contact Helen on (01905) 23298 or Ray on (01386) 554109 for more details.
