DISTINGUISHED organist Ashley Tidy will be giving a recital at Malvern Priory later this month.
Born and educated in Toronto, Mr Tidy began his career as an organist at the age of 14.
While studying for his Bachelor of Music degree, he spent the summers of 1964 and 1965 studying with Dr Hubert Sumsion, the organist of Gloucester Cathedral.
Dr Sumsion's piece Procession will open the recital, and will be followed by Chelsea Fayre by Reginald Goss-Custard.
Mr Tidy will also play Bells Across The Meadows by Ketelbey, Wagner's Pilgrims' Chorus, Cabena's Fugue alla Pachelbel, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No 1 and Rawsthorne's Hornpipe Humoresque.
For 45 years, he was organist and choirmaster at a church in Toronto and, though he retired in 2000, he still makes recital tours in the UK, the United States and Germany, as well as Canada.
The recital, organised by Friends of Malvern Priory, is on Monday, May 26, at 11am. Entry is free but there will be a retiring collection.
