A TOWN middle school is looking to the future after being chosen to take part in a school environment programme.

Grounds of the future

Catshill Middle school, on Meadow Road, has been designated as having 'school grounds for the future,' which means the school grounds will be transformed into high-quality environments.

Enhancements should benefit pupils, staff or other users, either educationally or socially. Improved lighting, fencing, play and sports facilities and planting areas are all examples of the kind of works the school will be undertaking.

Headteacher of Catshill Middle School, Stewart Burns said: "We're hoping to get an extension to the school playground. The children can help design it, but within reason!

"We want to create a quiet area where children can sit and talk and on a sunny day we can take a lesson outside in the fresh air."

The money for the project will come from the LEA but the charity, Learning Through Landscapes, will be on hand for support and advice.

Worcestershire County Council's director of education, Julie Kramer said: "We are delighted that these schools have been selected for the Grounds of the Future programme.

Room for improvement

"Many schools have realised the importance of improving their grounds and are starting to spend significant funds on it."
