BARNARDS Green 3rd XI entertained Worcester Nomads on Saturday at a cold and showery Newland ground.
BARNARDS GREEN III v WORCESTER NOMADS III
Put in to bat, the Green made an inauspicious start, losing Dean, Dyment and Perkins with just 29 on the board. Rob Lewis and Keith Middleton then set about repairing the damage, before Middleton was bowled by Emson for 18.
This brought Bob Rogers to the wicket and he took the bowling to task, racing to 59 before being caught off Claytor. This brought young Jonathon Lewis out to join his dad and the two of them took the score along to 213 before Robbie was yorked by the impressive Allen for 54. Jonathon was also undone by Allen for an excellent 33 and the Green ended their innings on 225-9. An excellent spell of bowling by young R Allen brought him figures of 4-32 off 10 overs.
In reply, Issacs, Brown and Kelly got Nomads off to a solid start, but Issacs was brilliantly run out by Lewis, kicking the ball left footed on to the stumps and Kelly was caught by the same fielder diving to his left. He then followed these acts by taking 5-19 to reduce Nomads to 145-9, but the loss of six overs to rain was sufficient for Nomads to hang on for a draw.
D Davis managed some lusty blows during his innings of 22 and debutant in the Thirds, Cyril Dean took an exceptional catch off his own bowling to dismiss Terry Birt.
Many thanks to match day sponsor NC Munford.
