Newent show garden designer Peter Dowle will have two chances of gold medal glory at next week's Chelsea Flower Show.

This week, Mr Dowle was at Chelsea helping to put the finishing touches to his "Yorkshire Alive" exhibit, and the "Kowa Lace and Tapestry Garden".

Mr Dowle said: "I've been involved, personally, in six gold medal gardens and this is my tenth Chelsea Flower Show.

"The Yorkshire Alive garden, sponsored by the tourism industry of Yorkshire, is a cracking garden, that will make people aware of the beauty of Britain."

Mr Dowle's father, Julian, has been heavily involved with the 15m by 15m exhibit, which recreates a scene from the Yorkshire Dales, including a small post office building.

Dry stone wallers have even been brought in from Yorkshire to add extra authenticity to the design.

The Kowa Lace and Tapestry Garden is designed to illustrate how inspiration can be drawn from flowers and plants for fabric and fashion design.

Mr Dowle has been working with Kay Yamada, known as Miss Kay, who is a well-known Japanese fashion and fabric designer who has drawn inspiration from English gardens.

White and light colours will be much in evidence, together with filigree foliage to given the idea of lace.

A pavilion at the front of the 12m by 15m garden will contain a piece of tapestry, apparently in the process of being worked on, and complimenting the warm colours of plants nearby.

The Chelsea Flower Show runs from Tuesday, May 20 to Friday, May 23.
