A FLAGSHIP housing scheme with a gym, spa and internet caf in Evesham could be duplicated in Pershore.

Evesham and Pershore Housing Association (EPHA) is seeking planning permission to remodel Cherry Orchard sheltered housing along the lines of the Yates Court ExtraCare scheme.

A consultation meeting between EPHA and Cherry Orchard's current tenants has already taken place, with plans displayed and residents given the opportunity to comment on the proposed internal design.

The housing association said existing tenants would remain in Cherry Orchard and those affected by the redevelopment would have the choice of new flats.

The EPHA planning application submitted to Wychavon District Council is for 24 new ExtraCare flats, as well as the extension of existing ones and the provision of new communal facilities.

ExtraCare is a charitable trust designed to take a unique approach to housing and support for older people.

It is intended to enable residents to enjoy the privacy of their own homes while also giving them the chance to take part in-group activities.

Although residents are encouraged to lead as active lives as possible, more than 80 per cent need everyday professional nursing or care support.

ExtraCare's services include housing schemes and nursing homes, providing care for elderly people with physical, mental or psychiatric problems.

The trust also manages several social clubs providing facilities for retired members of their local communities.

Evesham's Yates Court has 47 self-contained flats and facilities ranging from a hairdressing salon to fitness centre and an activity club for local visitors to use.

The complex cost £3.65m to build.
